L3Harris Technologies recently awarded Olathe-based Garmin a contract for its G3000 integrated flight deck as part of a U.S. Special Operations Command’s Armed Overwatch program.
USSOCOM had chosen L3Harris and Air Tractor to provide Sky Warden aircraft for the program, with a cost ceiling of $3 billion for delivery of up to 75 manned, fixed wing aircraft, and an initial program contract award of $170 million.
Garmin says L3Harris’ platform for the aircraft includes the first forward-fit deployable combat aircraft featuring Garmin’s G3000 flight deck. The flight deck provides USSOCOM with the latest communication, navigation and surveillance air traffic management capabilities.
“Garmin has an established history of supplying innovative, forward-looking avionics to militaries across the globe and we are honored to have our G3000 integrated flight deck support the U.S. Special Forces,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.
L3Harris has integrated its mission management system along with a wide range of military sensors, communications equipment, and weapons systems into the G3000 interface.
Garmin’s flight deck enables L3Harris to rapidly deploy new technologies quickly, provide lower life-cycle costs, and ensure access to the latest in avionic technologies.
“We’ve collaborated with Garmin for years and look forward to continuing our strategic relationship to enhance warfighter capabilities,” said Luke Savoie, L3Harris’ president of the Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance sector.
