The 2023 Kansas Congressional Fly-In, hosted by the Kansas Chamber, Heartland Black Chamber, and Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, took place this week in Washington, D.C. The event brings together Kansas business leaders to meet with the Kansas congressional delegation and learn about the latest issues and policies affecting Kansas businesses.
“It’s been another great year for the Fly-In,” said Kansas Chamber Vice President of Communications Sherriene Jones-Sontag. “It’s such a valuable opportunity for Kansas business leaders to connect with their elected officials, learn about the latest issues and policies affecting their businesses, and network with other Kansas business leaders. We’ve already heard some great feedback from this year’s participants and appreciate everyone who joined us, co-hosted or shared their expertise.”
Highlights from Day 1 of the Fly-In included an exclusive tour of the U.S. Archives Museum and a Kansas Welcome Reception. Attendees also capped the night with a U.S. Capitol Evening Tour with Rep. Ron Estes and late-night networking on the Speaker’s Balcony.
On Day 2, breakfast at the U.S. Capitol offered insights from Sen. Roger Marshall and Reps. Tracey Mann, Jake LaTurner, Sharice Davids and Ron Estes. Over the lunch hour, attendees participated in four conversation topic groups: Trade (Laura Lombard, Kansas Global Trade Services), Workforce (Keith Marinelli, National Association of Workforce Boards), Energy & Environment (Neil Chatterjee, Hogan Lovells), and a Legal Update (Linda Kelly, National Association of Manufacturers).
“Great to start the day with the Kansas Chamber,” said Rep. Ron Estes on X (formerly Twitter). “More than 70 members are in our nation’s capital this week, and I was happy to share updates on what is happening in Congress and how it affects Kansas.”
“Always great seeing so many familiar faces from the Kansas Chamber in DC!” said Rep. Sharice Davids on Facebook. “This morning, we chatted about the implantation of recent bipartisan legislation and how I’m working with my colleagues in Kansas’ congressional delegation.”
“On her last day as CEO, Laura Lombard is representing Kansas Global at the Kansas Chamber Congressional Fly-In in D.C., talking international trade,” said a post on Kansas Global Trade Services Facebook page. “… she starts her new role with the Kansas Department of Commerce on Monday as head of the international division.” (Click here to read the company’s new CEO & President Anne Dewvall.)
Following lunch, interested attendees toured the U.S. Pentagon.
“Thank you to Col. Nate Vogel for the private tour of the Pentagon,” said the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce on X (formerly Twitter). “Before moving to the Pentagon, Col. Vogel was the Commander of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base.”
On Day 3, the Fly-In continued with the AT&T forum offering breakfast and discussion from expert panels on advocacy, technology, and regulations. Lunch featured a look Inside DC Politics with Rob Engstrom of Wolfe Street Partners and Colin Reed of South & Hill Strategies.
