Bombardier, a global leader in the aerospace industry, is teaming up with Wichita State University Tech to introduce a groundbreaking apprenticeship program aimed at nurturing future talent in aviation maintenance.
Students will have the opportunity to become certified Aircraft Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technicians upon graduation from the program.
Head of U.S. Strategy at Bombardier, Tonya Sudduth emphasized the collaboration between WSU and Bombardier, citing WSU Tech’s reputation for aviation technician training, commitment to student success, and growth.
“The collaboration aligns with WSU Tech’s mission and goals in aviation education,” said Tonya Sudduth, head of U.S. strategy at Bombardier. “WSU Tech’s role in this collaboration is an important one. With over 6,500 students, they are the largest technical college in Kansas, and are a managing partner for the national Center for Aviation Training.”
WSU Tech will host students on campus for in-class learning two days per week. The apprenticeship program instructor will also accompany students to Bombardier’s Wichita site three days per week to support their hands-on training.
“Bombardier and WSU Tech are committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for our students, and we look forward to working with WSU Tech on managing this program and welcoming new cohorts in the months ahead,” Sudduth said.
The apprenticeship program aims to expand educational and training opportunities while driving workforce development in Kansas.
