Yearend giving to the Eisenhower Foundation can help the non-profit organization honor the legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower and reduce your income taxes by 50% of the value of your gift. It’s a win-win!
Located in Eisenhower’s hometown of Abilene, Kan., the Foundation worked with the Kansas Department of Revenue to implement the tax credit program after the Kansas Legislature created it in 2021.
“These tax credits give you a choice as to how your tax dollars are put to work, and you can see the value of your contribution immediately,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director Meredith Sleichter. “The Foundation plans to allocate tax credit program funds to a new project — building an education center focused on kindergarten through 12 grade programs in addition to public community programs.”
Tax credits are limited to $25,000 per individual or $50,000 per company. For example, an individual’s $50,000 donation would result in $25,000 credited back on state taxes. A company’s $100,000 donation would result in a $50,000 credit. To make the most informed giving decision, those considering a donation are encouraged to speak with their accountants.
“The Eisenhower Foundation is a wonderful organization,” says John Elmore, Eisenhower Foundation Board of Directors member and retired vice chairman of U.S. Bank. “It’s continuing to evolve and change to reach not only Kansans, but people around the world about the importance of the type of man that Eisenhower was. That type of leadership, diplomacy and understanding is needed now more than ever.”
The tax credit program will help the Foundation generate income in a new way, encouraging existing donors to invest more and those who have never donated to take that first step.
“Eisenhower was one of the most impactful people in history and a proud Kansan,” Elmore explains. “We are blessed to have the Eisenhower Library in the state of Kansas that not only showcases his time in the presidential office and military but all his archives and papers during that period. It’s a tremendous asset. The Kansas tax credits quite honestly are a vehicle that allows people to help preserve that asset and expand that legacy.”
Taxpayers can find more information about the tax credit program on the Eisenhower Foundation’s website. They can complete the individual or corporate form on the website to receive the tax credit. Taxpayers need a donation gift receipt by December 31, 2022, to verify the tax credit form.
