Bartlett & West, an engineering firm headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, recently was named one of 50 best places to work in the September 2022 issue of Prairie Business magazine, a business magazine published out of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Employees throughout that region nominated their companies, highlighting qualities that make their places of employment exceptional. Topics included workplace culture, opportunities for employee growth and employee morale. The top 50 companies were selected out of nearly 1,700 nominations.
With 18 offices in eight states (including northern Midwest offices in Bismarck, North Dakota, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota), Bartlett & West provides engineering, technology solutions and other professional services to a wide range of clients. It serves water districts, local and regional municipalities, DOTs, rail companies, land developers, architects, private industry, and other clients.
The company has a long employee-friendly legacy. Founded by Charlie West and Harry (Bus) Bartlett in 1951, Bartlett & West is 100 percent employee-owned and takes great pride in its employee-ownership culture. Eight project managers purchased the firm in 1986 and converted its profit-sharing plan into an employee stock ownership plan.
